Symbols SYS: Systolic blood pressure (resulting from high blood pressure) DIA: Diastolic blood pressure (resulting from low blood pressure) Pulse: Beats/minute Memory If “MEM” is displayed, the displayed measurement values are from memory How to read blood pressure readings? The device records two readings: the higher one represents systolic blood pressure, and the lower one represents diastolic blood pressure. The reading is written as a fraction: the numerator is systolic, and the denominator is diastolic. For example, if the systolic pressure is 115 and the diastolic pressure is 75, this person's blood pressure is written as 115/75. The difference between high and low blood pressure: High blood pressure is considered high if it is above the normal range, i.e., if the pressure is 140/90 mmHg or higher. Low blood pressure is considered low if the pressure is below normal, i.e., 90/60 mmHg or lower. Normal blood pressure: Your blood pressure is normal if it is less than 120/80 mmHg. Mild hypertension: When the systolic pressure is between 120 and 129 mmHg and the diastolic pressure is less than (not higher than) 80 mmHg. Stage 1 hypertension: Systolic pressure between 130 and 139 mmHg and diastolic pressure between 80 and 89 mmHg. Stage 2 hypertension: More severe hypertension when the systolic pressure is 140 mmHg or higher and the diastolic pressure is 90 mmHg or higher. If your blood pressure remains this high, contact your doctor immediately.
